Our newest Miss Metal-Blast is the second British lass that we've had in as many months. She an artist, a lover of blues rock, Starbucks coffee, cheap booze, books, Guns N Roses and she mentioned that she has disproportionately large breasts which is always a good thing. She's obviously got a sense of humor and wit about her and we like that so we were proud to make Clare Miss November/December 2007.

Tell us what you like about Metal-Blast.com.
Well, obviously the amount of valuable knowledge one can gain from it is vast. It’s what keeps me visiting the site. Here, I relish in reading first hand accounts of (probably drunken) debauchery with long-haired rockers from the Days Of Hairspray, competent album reviews, informative posts about good bands, the latest on [insert aging rocker’s name here] wig and, of course, general crudeness (of which it wouldn’t be ‘Metal-Blast.com’ without). You guys are great.

Tell us why you'd make a good Miss Metal-Blast.
I have disproportionately large breasts?

Ok, tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Clare and, as of today, I am 20 years, 5 months and 8 days old. I’m 5’ 5 with brown hair that shines gold in the sun and have green eyes. I’m a jobless student which means I’ve learnt to like cheap alcohol and charity shops. I was orphaned at the age of 4 and then adopted by my now-parents. I’m still very close to my family on my mother’s side—not that that fact is very relevant to ‘who I am’—it’s just a fact. What follows is a random list of things I like: going to gigs (especially if I’m on the guest list) art (both ridiculous and good) electric blue, mango juice, traipsing around Camden dressed as a hippy, aviators, being in the company of good friends, road trips, smiles, Slash (the person, not the porn), fantastical stories & mythology, Starbucks’ hot chocolate with cream on top (I do not drink tea or coffee) not caring about what others think of me, hating on Keira Knightley, reading and writing poetry, picnics, appreciating the NOW, dingy bars where they play guitars…I could go on…

Where are you from and what kind of work do you do?
I live in a fairly big, colourful, pebble-dashed house with my parents, younger brother and nieces in the outskirts of London. We have an obscene number of pets including cats, dogs, horses, ducks, doves, owls and fish—no, we do not live on a farm. I’ve just completed the first year of my degree in Fine Art—of which, I think,I did rather well in and reallyreallyreallyreally enjoyed. I’ve concluded that I’m inexplicably drawn to creating ‘positive’ pieces of art. A good example of this is my last major piece, for which I hand wrote the word ‘love’ to fill up a piece of card-like paper measuring 10ft by 5ft. It took me about 8 days and I worked on it for 6 hours a day. I enjoy creating pieces which provoke mostly positive thought and/or participation from the viewer in some way.

What kind of ambitions or goals do you have?
When I return to university I intend to put on a few solo exhibitions—I have an idea for a wonderful piece; it shall require a lot of work and time to set up but I know it’ll be worth it. I can’t possibly describe it and, anyway, it’s a secret! I really have no idea about what I ‘want to be’ in the future—‘happy’ suits me fine. Ideally, I’d like to be ‘one of those artists’ who stick blu-tack on to a wall and get £80,000,000 for it. I’d like to meet Keith Richards, Duff McKagan, Ricky Gervais and Slash—preferably not all at the same time as I’d have no idea what to do with myself. Also, at some point, I’d very much like to walk into a crowded bar seething with civilised drunkards singing along to ‘Sweet Virginia’ which would be played (well and in tune) by equally drunk musicians—preferably The Stones, but, hey “You can’t always get what you want..”.

What kind of hobbies do you have?
I have an ever-growing collection of books which I fully intend to finish reading. A few books in this collection include ‘The Iliad’ (Homer) ‘The Divine Comedy’ (Dante) ‘Paradise Lost’ (Milton) ‘Nineteen Eighty Four’ (Orwell) ‘The Lord of The Rings’ trilogy (Tolkien)—I’ve tried, I really have…plus a few autobiographies. I also very much enjoy going to art galleries. I particularly enjoyed Antony Gormley’s ‘Blind Light’ at the Hayward and wholeheartedly recommend it. I used to be very much into writing poetry too, but have been rather busy as of late—but that is also something I really enjoy doing. A friend of mine works in a local cinema, so I get to see whatever film I want for free—I liked ‘300’ a lot. I like to be made to feel on-edge when watching films—so I also want to see ‘Hostel II’, apparantly, it's sick.

Favorite bands?
Guns N’ Roses were my first ever favourite band (aside from The Spice Girls when I was about 10) thus, they shall always hold a special place in my heart. I saw them 4 times in 2006; once at a festival and the others at various venues in the UK. Axl’s lateness didn’t exactly thrill everyone, but, when they came on, they just exceeded all expectations. Initially, I was a bit hesitant at seeing the latest incarnate of Gn’R (someone other than Slash playing the ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ riff?? Sacrilege!!), but it was fantastic. I also like The Rolling Stones a lot. It’s impossible to choose a favourite album of theirs as it changes almost on a daily basis but, right now, it’d have to be ‘Exile On Main Street’. I was lucky enough to win a pair of tickets to see them at Twickenham last August—I can’t even begin to articulate how much I enjoyed myself and how good it was. That was a perfect day. Hopefully, I’ll be obtaining passes for their concert at the O2 (aka the Millennium Dome) this year! Another band I like a lot is Led Zeppelin. I discovered then properly when I was about 17/18 and was hooked from then on. I like their dark, bluesy edge and all the rumours of black magic only makes them more attractive. They’re probably my main favourite bands. Aside from the ones mentioned, off the top of my head, I also really really like Jimi Hendrix, Free, Robert Johnson, The Black Crowes and Pink Floyd. There are many, many, others but I only ‘really like’ those ones. I’m quite into blues music.

Which type of musician are you most likely to go after, The singer, the guitar player, the bass player or the drummer?
In the past, I’ve liked all the above types before. Broadly speaking though, it’s likely that the guitarist will catch my eye first. I don’t know why this is—I think perhaps I imagine them as being quite soulful and ‘in touch’.

Turn ons/Turn offs?
First and foremost, I like open-mindedness, calmness and someone who’s comfortable with who they are. The ability to make me laugh is also a good thing. Physically, I find long hair (on any sex!) attractive—dark or light, it doesn’t matter. Or, hair doesn’t have to be long, but if it’s interesting in some way, then that’ll get my attention. Long curly hair is gooooood. Broad shoulders is also a plus; but naturally broad, not body builder-esque beefy broad. Also, I tend to date slightly older men—I do not know why this is.
Bad body odour is a turn off, along with a closed mind, arrogance, bad oral hygiene (Slash is an exception) and childishness.

What does it take to win you over?
I like quick-wittedness; someone who can think on their feet, but in a clever, impressive, colourful way. An infinite knowledge on Stones and/or Guns N’ Roses trivia is a very good thing, as is an amazing smile. Actually, you don’t necessarily have to know an impressive amount on said bands—simply listening to me prattle on about them whilst looking interested and throwing in the odd ‘Oh, really?’ every now and again will do fine.

Got anything to pimp? Bands, charities, favorite websites (besides Metal-Blast.com), TV shows, etc.
Well, this is my MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/sweet_child_o_mine
please send me a message if you’d like to ‘add’ me—otherwise I’ll deny you!
